Day in The Life

Spotlight: Peter Andreu, Promotions Manager, Sportsbook

Peter’s BetMGM Value: Play to Win

Peter Andreu runs Sports Promotional Marketing at BetMGM, a role that connects him with team members in cities around the U.S and Europe. He says 99.9% of his life revolves around sports, but it’s not all work: he also watches and plays sports with friends, often bringing along his dog, Luna. While every day is packed with small wins and chances to work with the BetMGM team, Peter is especially proud of last year’s acquisition efforts for their Thanksgiving Day offer. His team promoted the offer through all of BetMGM’s CRM platforms, on-site at the Borgata Hotel & Casino, through paid and digital social media, in newspapers, on radio ads, and through all of BetMGM's major partners – including Yahoo! Sports.

“Our Thanksgiving offer really brought the teams together,” he says. “It required an all hands-on deck approach to relay it to multiple channels. That effort immensely paid off— and it was our most successful acquisition promotional offer to date!”

We caught up with Peter to hear more about his day-to-day activities, BetMGM colleagues-turned-friends, and what it means to run a business based on the fast-moving world of sports betting.

7 a.m./Seizing the day: I try to take my dog on a long walk before heading into the office. I always check on my favorite sports and teams to make sure I haven’t missed any major updates since last night.

8:30 a.m./A dream commute: My active day continues with a ten-block, 12-minute walk to BetMGM's Jersey City offices. I probably have the most ideal commute of anyone on the team. I start my day by looking at the results of our campaigns from yesterday; we have to stay informed about the most relevant news in the industry. My job involves a lot of communication across teams in different locations—from our Jersey City HQ, to BetMGM’s satellite office in Vegas, all the way to our colleagues in Europe. I love the varied conversations and projects, and I find my role quite exciting.

10 a.m./Syncing with the team: Our team has a very informal set of morning meetings—we talk about sports, news from last night, and generally how we did as a company from the day prior. On Tuesdays, we meet to discuss trading in a more formal setting, and throughout the week we have other meetings focused on specific marketing initiatives.

12:30 p.m./Team lunch: We eat lunch at Hudson Grill almost every day. It’s nearby, and anyone is welcome to join. It’s a nice routine that gets the team out of the office for a bit before an action-packed afternoon.

2 p.m./Time to hustle: Things heat up in the afternoon with most sporting events happening at night. Our marketing and trading teams brainstorm on the games and events we’re going to focus on for the day, often times as part of a “boosted bet” strategy – which give our players the chance to earn a bigger payout on their bets. This is the busiest time of day; I usually spend it running around to gather lots of different opinions from those various team members. That information helps us make data-driven decisions.

5:30 p.m./Go time: We tie up loose ends before leaving the office to make sure we’re prepared for the night of sports ahead. I’ve become really close with many of my BetMGM coworkers, so we often head to a happy hour or watch a game after work. Our office in Jersey City is close to some fun bars and restaurants—sometimes I even bring my dog. When I’m not at the office, I also play a lot of soccer, golf and hockey.

Saturday: My apartment building has a pool, so on weekends friends from BetMGM stop by or we check out a sporting event in New York. We’re always looking to explore the city—and we find plenty of reasons to celebrate team and individual successes!
